There are approximately one million Salvadoreans residing in the Los Angeles area, making them the second largest immigrant group in California. With such a large population working in the U.S., remittances to El Salvador have reached $3 billion, accounting for 15 percent of that nation's GDP. Last year, August 6 marked the first Salvadorean-American Day (Día del Salvadoreño).
